Scottish Kennel (Aug.) Club 2009 Critique

Firstly I should like to thank my stewards for their most efficient support. Now, to general impression of the representatives of the breed at this show. Quite candidly the overall quality was disappointing. Where have all the beautiful soft expressions and dark eyes gone, the flowing lines? There was a lack of second thigh and sloping pasterns required conformation in a running dog. Didn’t find any overweight hounds, but my goodness so many were thin through and lacked condition. Sadly one hound did not exhibit the temperament one would expect from our breed. Ears were generally either beautiful – small and well set off - or on to the other extreme, and tails have definitely improved. Feet again seemed overall quite correct. Thankfully, there were a few stars.

PD (2) 1 Cartmell’s Cusidh Righ Innse Gall. Well grown hound shown in good condition. Lacked depth of brisket but superb hindquarters and good feet. 2 Milne’s Gentiehun Double Oh Seven. Better forehand than winner, but not the hindquarters nor general overall quality.

JD (1) 1 Cumming’s Stainlonan Luther. Stood alone in this class. Very tall rangy hound needs to carry a lot more muscle and come together.

YD (1) 1 Barret’s Stranwith Symphony. Lovely young yearling dog. Good depth, good bone. Slightly soft in the pastern. Lovely short hock, excellent muscle beautiful head and moved reasonably well.

PGD (7) 1 Taylor’s Kilbourne James Dene. First and second close up to each other. Both slightly straight in the pastern. Just preferred the elegance of my winner. Lovely lines and shorter in the hock to 2nd. 2 Spencer & Rhodes’ Gentom Renown. Another well made dog but not the depth of brisket of winner. 3 Hawkins’ Kwaricott Asclepius.

LD (8,1) 1 Barret’s Stranwith Ebenezer. What a beautiful hound this is. Took my eye as soon as he came into the ring. Quite big hound but not a hint of coarseness. Beautiful head and strong neck flowing into good shoulders and correct upper arm. Good depth and length of brisket, strength of loin and superb hind quarters. Lovely short hock and good feet. Moved with drive. Could not go past him for CC and then BOB. Delighted he stayed in to last 6 in Group. 2 Gillie’s Dorrator Gethen. Another quality hound. Not quite the depth of brisket as winner but lovely hind quarters and low hock. Another good mover. Res CC. 3 Trotman & Dockree’s Regalflight Princequillo Of Penherald.

OD (2,1) 1 Peach’s Ch Greyflax Myth To Kilbourne. Stood alone. Nicely put together dog but a bit cloddy for me. Good enough forehand and quarters. Good feet.

PB (8) 1 Foote & Crossan’s Cusidh Caol Muile. Mature young bitch. Excellent flat bone and good body. Lovely head good strong neck and good enough front angulation. Lower hock than 2nd and good hind muscle. Well handled. Best Puppy. 2 Doak’s Rosslyn Plainsong. Much rangier hound than winner, but good forehand and elegant shape. 3 Gillie’s Dorrator Song For Drella.

JB (3) 1 Foote & Crossan’s Cusidh Caol Muile. 2 Doak’s Rosslyn Pledge. Litter sister to 2nd in previous class. Same type and shape to her sister. 3 Trotman’s Stainlonan Kulang Of Penherald.

YB (4) 1 Peach’s Kilbourne Teine. Quality and elegance. Lovely head and expression. Good forehand, depth and length of brisket good quarters and feet. Res CC. 2 Taylor & Peach’s Brackenland Tan To Kilbourne. Much rangier bitch. Not the lovely expression of 1 and longer in the hock. 3 Jackson’s Aileymill's Jewel.

PGB (8) 1 Doak’s Rosslyn Omega. Good front, good depth, lovely short hock. Good tail set. 2 Taylor’s Guinivere Starshire From Kilbourne. Longer cast than winner. Not the forehand angulation of winner and a slightly harder eye. 3 Macbean’s Killoeter Morven.

LB (5,2) 1 Samways’ Ghiltan Tiercel. 1 and 2 close up. Just preferred the hind angulation of winner and I thought a slightly more appealing head. Both good hounds. 2 Peach’s Pinglehol Ruby To Kilbourne. 3 Catmell’s Dream Dance For Cusidh.

OB (4) 1 Cartmell’s Drawing Down The Moon To Cusidh. 1 and 2 both quality hounds. Just preferred the lines and femininity of my winner. Deeper in the chest, broader in the thigh and shorter in the hock. Slightly darker eye than 2nd. CC. 2 Peach’s Ch Witch Way To Kilbourne. Good hound, but for me not the elegance of winner. 3 Jackson’s Killoeter Kalanchoe.
